I’m sure by now your favorite blog has posted this, but I couldn’t resist because I love Madlib. Also, I love the Stones Throw aesthetic. I can’t pass up a reason to post this cover art. Is is absolutely a dream. It’s an amazing piece of art that is instantly contagious when you see it. Strong Arm Steady could not have made a better move by having Madlib handle the production for “In Search Of Stoney Jackson”. I feel like this is a great way to make some dope grimey hip hop and reconnect with the underground and show they are still relevant. I’m guessing Kweli and his label hooked this one up. I must say, what a great idea. Plus, Phonte graces the track as well, which makes it even better then it could be…… An all star line up, dope production, and amazing artwork… I’m excited.

As I continue with the weekly series for Illroots it just keeps getting more fun. This last week Dub Floyd put together a nice mixtape that showcases all of the talent of Wu Tang! There is some great stuff on here, and I even was graced to be in one of Dub’s ScreaMixx’s. This week was inspired by old kung fu movies. I stuck with the simple, hand drawn type to keep it grimey and simple. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. More to come soon!

J Dilla — Suite For Ma Dukes Performed By 40 Piece Orchestra

On February 22nd, 2009 at Cal State University a 40 piece orchestra performed many of J Dilla’s song in tribute to him. Dilla’s friends and families were standing by to hear this magical event happen. Vocal stylings were performed by Dwele, Amp Fiddler, Bilal, Talib Kweli, OH NO, Alchemist, Illa J, Frank Nitty, Rhettmatic, Ma Dukes, and Houseshoes. Karriem Riggins on the drums. I hope that one day they release this whole performance because the world needs to see what is possible with hip hop. There isn’t much to say about this other then you need to hear it.
